| Gaige gives date of birth as 'c1813', as do Hooper and Whyld in their 1st edition. However, in their 2nd edition, Hooper and Whyld give date of birth as '1812', so I presume they determined this more precisely. The 26 May 1866 issue of the Illustrated London News says that he died 'recently'. Alphonse Delannoy, in Le Palamède (1845, p.557) mentions playing against 'les frères Pouling' on is visit to London in 1844. Could these be the 'W. and A. Pulling' mentioned in the Chess Player's Chronicle of 1847 (v.8, p.175)? |
