Notes: |
I am guessing that the 'Geo. S. Walton' of Birmingham who played in the circulating game in 1883 (see CN 4652) is actually 'George E. Walton' (1846-1887) as given by Gaige in Chess Personalia. A 'G.E. Walton' is given in the Bristol Mercury (19 Apr. 1882) as a player for Birmingham in 1882. I am also guessing that this is the 'Captain Walton' of Birmingham who played in a match against Worcester in 1873 (Illustrated London News, 10 May 1873, p.451). |
