Di Felice identifies the player at New York 1887 as Herbert Otto Rosenbaum. While possible, this seems unlikely, at least without further proof, as that Rosenbaum was active in tournaments in Germany from 1889 to 1896. More likely, this is the 'J. Rosenbaum' mentioned by van Winsen in his book on Mason (see p.371), who was active in New York in the 1870s, or the 'A. Rosenbaum' listed as a member of the New York State Chess Association in 1891 (p.51). Both J. Rosenbaum and A. Rosenbaum played for the Columbia Chess Club in 1888 (Columbia Chess Chronicle, v.2, 30 June 1888, p.212). |
