Gaige has 'McArthur, Sgt.-Maj. G.' but Land and Water (25 Feb. 1882) has 'W. McArthur' and Harding has 'Sergeant Major W. McArthur'. Land and Water (2 Feb. 1884, p.108) has 'W. MacArthur'. I am guessing that these are the same person, and that Gaige confused the initial with that of the Rev. G. McArthur, of Scotland.
