Notes: |
John Wood was elected as a member of the Liverpool Club in 1842 (Edgar, p.75). In 1861, 'Wood (late of the Liverpool Club)' was listed as a participant at the tournament held at the Cardiff Club (Manchester Weekly Express and Guardian, 21 Dec. 1861). No other player with the surname 'Wood' became a member of the Liverpool Club until 1866 (Edgar, p.75), so I presume the player at Cardiff 1861 was John Wood. However, there was also a John Wood who played in Manchester in 1860 and 1861 at least, and a John Wood who played in Worcester from 1856 to 1873. Could any of these three be identical? |
