| Di Felice indicates that the win by von Minckwitz over Göring was by default. Gaige, La Grande Storia degli Scacchi and the Era give the score as if the game took place. The Congress book, and the Schachzeitung of Sep. 1871 (p.257), say that neither the Minckwitz-Göring nor the W. Paulsen - L. Paulsen games were actually played. Gaige only gives the placement of the first 3 after the play-off. Di Felice and La Grande Storia degli Scacchi give the actual results of the play-off, as in the Congress book. The Era of 1 Oct. 1871 (p.14) says there was no play-off, but the issue of 26 Nov. 1871 (p.4) gives the correct details. Feenstra Kuiper only gives totals but gives the bottom 3 as Göring 2, W. Paulsen 1, and Pitschel 0, as given in the Era. Gaige, Di Felice and La Grand Storia degli Scacchi agree on the crosstable as given here, which is the same as that given in the Congress book, except that the latter also has a draw between Minckwitz and W. Paulsen, not mentioned in the other sources. Di Felice gives the ending date as Aug. 12, as does the Congress book; La Grande Storia degli Scacchi gives the ending date as Aug. 7. |
