Notes: |
This was a 14-player single-round all-play-all tournament, but W.F. Reed withdrew before completing his games. Shipley had already beaten him, but as it is not clear who played Reed and who did not, I do not count this win in Shipley's score here. After Reed's scores were discounted, Shipley ended up in a 3-way tie for first with Bampton and Mlotkowski. The Los Angeles Herald of 10 Jun. 1906 (p.41) also gives the score of Morgan. The Los Angeles Herald says 'in the play off of two games each, Bampton and Shipley drew their games with Mlotkowski, while Bampton, by drawing his first game and winning the second from Shipley, obtained first place. Hilbert gives a draw by Shipley against each of Bampton and Mlotkowski in the play-off, and says the Bampton eventually won, which is all consistent with the Los Angeles Herald report. |
