End date: May 1891 |

Notes: |
This was a double-round all-play-all with 15 players starting. According to the New York Sun of 20 May 1891, A.C. Clapp 'retired from the tournament', but the sum of scores given suggests that Clapp played one round and those games were counted in final scores. The same report gives scores for the other 14 players, but says that two players, H. Stubbs (who scored 8.5) and [T.] Rosenfeld (who scored 4) forfeited 7 and 10 games, respectively, 'by non-appearance'. Since there is no indication of who these games were forfeited to, I have simply not included these two players in the list of results (their scores are greatly depressed because of all the forfeits). The scores of the players who won games by default should be adjusted to reflect this, but since I don't know who they are, I have left them as reported (the effect on ratings should be small). |
