Event table notes

Event data
Name: Brooklyn Club Championship
Place: New York
Start date: 7 Mar. 1892
End date: 14 Nov. 1892

Notes:
A 10-player double-round all-play-all. Second round draws were to be replayed; the only draw in the first round was Olly-Finlay. A drawn game that had to be replayed occurred between Hodges and Kemeny, Hanham and Kemeny, Finlay and Hodges, and, according to the Brooklyn Daily Eagle of 26 Mar. 1892 (p.1), Pollock drew one against Russell in the second round (presumably replayed also). These second round draws were not included in the official scores; I include them here separately, under match results, and there may have been other draws. The scores as of 25 Jun. 1892 (as given by Hilbert and Lahde, p.110) showed Finlay at 3-15, which would be a full result of 18 games, but then apparently he drew another game against Hodges (a replayed draw) and the final scores don't add up correctly unless Finlay achieved 3.5 points, so I have assumed that here. Pollock played all his games early; the main tournament was finished by mid-July. The play-off matches for third prize were played between Aug. and Nov. 1892. Hilbert and Lahde say that Hodges, Hanham and Blackmar were to play two games between each pair, but only the results between Hodges and Hanham, and Hodges and Blackmar are reported. Hanham forfeited his second game against Hodges. Hilbert and Lahde (p.105) say that the tournament started on 5 Mar. 1892. The American Chess Monthly of 1892 (p.79) and the Brooklyn Daily Eagle of 11 Mar. 1892 (p.1) say that it started on 7 Mar. 1892.
