Notes: |
Staunton in the Illustrated London News gives 'Whiteford' at this event, as does the Chess Player's Chronicle of June 1873 (p.279) and the Field of 5 Apr. 1873; Sergeant and Harding give 'B. Whitefoord'. There was some confusion about whether de Soyres won one game from Parratt, but this seems to have been caused by a confusion over colours (since black played first in some games). Staunton (in the Apr.26 issue of the Illustrated London News), Sergeant and Harding clarify that Parratt won both his games against de Soyres. The second game on each of the first 2 boards (Parratt - de Soyres and Schomberg - Ogden) were adjudicated by Steinitz as wins for the Oxford side. The initial report in the Chess Player's Chronicle has a score of 0-0 for Meredith-Keynes. |
