| La Minerve of 19 Apr. 1873 (p.1) and the Montreal Gazette of 19 Apr. 1873 (p.2) say that the match was to start the next day. The Canadian Illustrated News of 14 June 1873 givs the result of all 5 games, including the win at board 1 by H.J. Ruttan (of Cobourg) over G.P. Baker (of Ottawa). The Canadian Illustrated News of 19 July 1873 (p.43) has a letter from the Secretary of the Ottawa Club claiming that the result of the first game (Ruttan-Baker) was flawed by mistransmission of a move, and that a sixth game was played (players not specified), won by Ottawa. Thus, I will not include the Ruttan-Baker game. |
