Event table notes

Event data
Name: 7th West Yorkshire Chess Association Meeting - 1st Tournament
Place: Wakefield
Start date: 3 May 1862
End date: 3 May 1862

Notes:
Steve Mann gives only the fact that Thorold beat Marsden, Holdsworth and Cockayne in turn. I assume 1-0 in each case (this was a one-day tournament). The Chess Player's Chronicle of June 1862 (p.177) says that in the second round the game Hunter-Cockayne was never finished and eventually Hunter resigned but only because he couldn't play it out at a later date. The game Thorold-Cockayne had not at the time of that report been played.
