| This was the final of the handicap which started with 20 players in two sections of 10 each, the top three in each section playing in the final. The preliminary sections started 9 Oct. 1912, and had finished by the time of the report in The Age of 10 Dec. 1912 (p.6). Results of the first round of the final were reported in the 21 Dec. 1912 issue of the Melbourne Leader (p.24), so it probably started some time in the week leading up to that report. The results of the final were reported in the 1 Feb. 1913 issue of the Australasian (p.60), though the scores there are given incorrectly. It says that the play-off between Gundersen and Watson was to be played off on 30 Jan. 1913. The result of the play-off game is given in the 8 Feb. 1913 issue of the Melbourne Weekly Times (p.2). Some results of the preliminary sections can be gleaned from the newspaper reports, including total scores for the top 3 in each section, but not enough to use for rating purposes. Di Felice gives the crosstable and the results of the play-off match, but with no indication of the odds classes of the players and handicaps given. |
