| Although the Leeds Mercury of 19 Apr. 1886 (p.3) and the British Chess Magazine of May 1886 (p.209) say that Tate beat Slack, the Leeds Mercury of 24 Apr. 1886 (p.7) says that Tate took first prize and Slack took second 'by arrangement'. I take this to be a correction of the earlier report. |
