Event table notes

Event data
Name: 3rd German Chess Federation Congress - Meisterturnier
Place: Nuremberg
Start date: 16 July 1883
End date: 30 July 1883

Notes:
Gaige, Feenstra Kuiper and Di Felice indicate that Lange defaulted 5 of his games (against Winawer, Berger, Weiss, Bier and W. Paulsen), Bier defaulted 1 against Mason, and W. Paulsen defaulted 1 against L. Paulsen. Gaige also indicates that Gunsberg defaulted against von Bardeleben, but none of the other sources show this (and the game seems to be known). La Grande Storia degli Scacchi does not indicate any defaulted games. Gaige gives starting date 16 July 1883; Feenstra Kuiper and Di Felice give starting date 15 July 1883. Harding makes it clear that the preliminary meeting was on 15 July, but play began on 17 July 1883.
