Event table notes

Event data
Name: Vienna Schachgesellschaft Championship
Place: Vienna
Start date: 17 Dec. 1882
End date: 4 Feb. 1883

Notes:
This was originally a 10-player tournament, but according to the Deutsche Schachzeitung, A. Schwarz, Meitner, Kauders and Kleeberg withdrew early. Gillam, in the Quarterly for Chess History, gives a crosstable including Kleeberg and Kauders, but not A. Schwarz or Meitner. It seems likely, on the basis of this evidence that A. Schwarz and Meitner withdrew early, and any games they played were cancelled from the scores, but that Kleeberg and Kauders stayed in for most of the tournament. Which games they did not play is not indicated, so I will use the crosstable as given, but the ratings of the bottom two players will be lower than they should be, since some of their losses were forfeits.
