| Only partial results available. Single round all-play-all, with draws replayed. The reports of total wins, losses and draws of each player in the Dundee Courier and Argus stop after 7 Feb. 1863, at which point most players still had games left to play. One additional game is given in the 2 May 1863 issue, a win by Lindsay against 'B', who is called 'one of the best players in Town'. It is pretty clear that this must be C.R. Baxter, not John Bertie, and this must have been played after 7 Feb., since the report of that date lists 0 losses for Baxter. A win by C.R. Baxter over E.E. Scott is given in the 3 Jan. 1863 issue. The reports every few days allow some other specific game results to be deduced, but for the rest it is not clear against which subset of players the remaining games were played. A best-guess approach is taken here, in which the remaining points for and against each player are distributed among the remaining possible opponents in a way that is consistent with both the total wins and total losses of each player. The report in the Dundee Courier and Argus of 27 Dec. 1862 has errors, since the total numbers of wins, losses and draws are not internally consistent. The most plausible explanation is that a loss and draw by P. Scott against Ogilvy have been omitted from his totals. I have made this assumption. |
