Biographical data
Name: Fraser, George Brunton
Also known as: James George Fraser
Born: 29 Apr. 1829
Died: 1 Dec. 1905

Notes:
Gaige gives birth between 2-12-1830 and 1-12-1831. Hooper and Whyld (1st ed.) give birth year 'c1831' and give 1831 in the 2nd edition. Harding gives birth year as '1831?' and gives evidence that he was 74 years old at his death on 1 Dec. 1905. However, Harding also notes that there was no birth record for a George Brunton Fraser, and that his parents had a fourth child named James George Fraser, born 29 Apr. 1829, and a fifth, James Fraser born 30 Nov. 1830, and 'the chess player may have been the latter'. Although the date of birth of the latter matches his stated age at death better, McGowan argues that George Brunton Fraser was actually born James George Fraser on 29 Apr. 1829. The fact that the fifth child was also named 'James' is perhaps another indication that the fourth child was renamed 'George', his second name at birth.
