Notes: |
The final crosstable in the 15 Sep. 1886 issue of the Brooklyn Chess Chronicle (p.179) shows Wilcox, Wilkinson, Treen and Rocchi as having played only their first round games. The 15 Jul. 1886 issue (pp.145-146) say that Wilkinson withdrew after completing his 15 first round games, and then that Wilcox and Rocchi had also withdrawn, but the scores there show that Rocchi had played only 14 games, and that Wilcox had played 16. Treen was not flagged as having withdrawn at this point and his score shows that he had played 19 games. Presumably, the games already played in the second round by Wilcox and Treen were discounted in the final official crosstable. What happened to Rocchi's unplayed first round game is not clear. We don't know the opponents of these additional or missing games, so we ignore them and use the official crosstable for rating. |
