Event table notes

Event data
Name: Southampton - Bournemouth Match
Place: Bournemouth
Start date: 11 Jan. 1884
End date: 11 Jan. 1884

Notes:
The scores given in the Hampshire Advertiser show Fewings with 2 1/2 against Leonard with 0, and on the line below W.C. Westlake with 1 against T. Rebbeck with 1/2. It seems most likely that the 1/2 attributed to Leonard was displaced up from Westlake, so that the two scores should read 2-0 and 1.5-0.5. The intention was for each pair of players to play two games (though it is stated that three games were not commenced since time was short). The report also says that Sloper resigned to Thomson, and so Thomson won the point, but afterwards they continued the game and Sloper won. However, that was not official, and it is recorded as a sin for Thomson here. The player named 'Ferry' here was named 'Terry' in the first match between these teams in Dec. 1883. Which is correct is not yet clear to me.
