Di Felice says that Loughran 'retired due to ill health'. The Age of 10 May 1926 (p.5) says that 'Mr. Loughran's low score is accounted for by his forfeiting most of his games by retiring. The only game we know he played is his first round draw against Rosenblum. Until more information comes to light, I will assume that all his other games were not played, though some might have been played and lost. Di Felice gives the start date as 6 Feb. 1926, but the Age of 2 Feb. 1926 (p.7) says that 'the first round will be played this evening at 7.30.' Di Felice gives end date 24 Apr. 1926, but the last weekly reports in the Age and the Argus, reporting the end of the tournament, appear in the 10 May 1926 issues, so I presume it finished early in May. The Argus says it 'concluded last week'. |
