Di Felice does not give the handicaps or classes of players. The reports in the Age and the Argus give the classes of each player, but don't specify the handicaps precisely. There were two preliminary sections of 11 players each, the top 3 of each section playing in the final, reported here. Originally there were 5 classes of players with odds ranging from Pawn and Move to Rook and Move. One might guess that the handicaps for class differences of two and three were Pawn and Two Moves and a Knight, respectively. In any case, only players of the top 3 classes qualified for the final, so I am guessing that the handicap for a class difference of one was Pawn and Move, and for a class difference of two was Pawn and Two Moves. The latter in particular, might possibly be wrong (perhaps it went directly to Knight, then Rook, then Rook and Move), but this seems most likely. |
