| Partial results available. Play-off between the winners of the 3 first-class sections, Moriau, Mocatta and Smith. The Illustrated London News of 13 Feb. 1892 says that these 'have made a tie of three' and are now playing off their tie, but as the winners of the 3 sections, they would in any case have had to play off for the championship. The 20 Feb. issue says that only Moriau and Smith remain, but does not indicate what games were played to eliminate Mocatta, nor the scores. Their final game was won by Smith over two playing sessions, as indicated in the 5 Mar. issue of the Illustrated London News. This last game is the only one I can include. I will presume that this play-off took place entirely in Februrary. |
