Notes: |
This was a 12-player tournament; all names are given by Di Felice but he only gives the results of the final three, and only says how many wins the winner obtained in each of these final stage matches, so scores are not completely certain. Lange won 3 from Mayet, Dufresne won 3 from Lange, and Dufresne won 2 from Mayet. Names of 10 of the competitors are given in the Dec. 1852 Schachzeitung (p.451): Dufresne, Eliason, Franz, Häusler, Hoffmann, Kähler, Lange, Mayet, Willbert, and Wolff; Lehfeldt and Kossak must have signed up last. Compiling results of the 17 actual games given in the Schachzeitung of 1853, and one other in the Chess Player's Chronicle (two more there are reprints of games in the Schachzeitung) gives a very incomplete idea of the progress of the tournament. However, we do get three games between Mayet and Wolff with result +2-1, as well as losses by Dufresne against Lange and Mayet, and a loss by Lange against Mayet. So I count Dufresne-Lange as +3-1, Dufresne-Mayet as +2-1, and Lange-Mayet as +3-1. We also have two games between Wolff and Dufresne, with score +1-1, but it seems likely that this is not a complete result between them, so I don't include this. |
