Event table notes

Event data
Name: New York Chess Club Tournament
Place: New York
Start date: Feb. 1853
End date: Apr. 1853

Notes:
Partial results available. 8-player knockout tournament, in which Stanley had to win 5 to defeat an opponent, whereas all others had to win only 3. In the first round, Thompson beat Lloyd and Marache beat Frazer but scores are not given (included here as 1-0 scores). Mantin-Gallatin and Stanley-Perrin scores are given. In round 2, Thompson beat Mantin but score not given (included here as 1-0 score). Marache-Stanley score given. In the final, Thompson must have beaten Marache, since Hillyer claims that Thompson won the tournament, but that score is not given either (included here as 1-0 score). Dates uncertain, but Spinrad gives results of first round in the Albion of Feb.19 and 26, 1853, and 2nd round results in the Albion of Apr.2, 1853, so I estimate that it started in Feb. and ended in Apr.
