Event table notes

Event data
Name: 7th West German Chess Congress - Hauptturnier
Place: Aachen
Start date: 2 Aug. 1868
End date: 5 Aug. 1868

Notes:
This was a 16-player knockout tournament. Draws had to be replayed. We know that Schnitzler drew with Hammacher before beating him (the game is given by the Neue Berliner Schachzeitung, Oct. 1868, pp.293-294), and Göring drew with Keller before beating him (Neue Berliner Schachzeitung, Oct. 1868, p.296). There may have been others. Göring took third prize and Schnitzler fourth by lot. The Illustrirte Zeitung of 15 Aug. 1868 (p.122) says the final games were played on 5 Aug. 1868.
