Notes: |
Feenstra Kuiper gives scores for the 8 official prize-winners, and indicates that their were 2 groups, but not which players were in which group. The Tidschrift van den Nederlandschen Schaakbond of 1 Aug. 1898 (pp.161-163) gives full crosstables for the two groups, and indicates that a ninth (consolation) prize was awarded to Mej. Splinter after a play-off with Mevr. Snoer. Peter de Jong's article on the OZU website says that Mevr. Muller-Thijm (who won the A group) won a play-off for first prize against Mej. Jansen (who won the B group). I assume that each of the other prizes was also decided by a play-off, between the 2nd place players in the two groups, the two 3rd place players, and the two 4th place players. Placings in the two groups had been decided by Sonneborn-Berger scores where ties occurred. I also assume that these play-off matches were single games. |
