Event table notes

Event data
Name: Czech Chess Association Winter Tournament
Place: Prague
Start date:
End date: Mar. 1896

Notes:
I am guessing that the 'Beneš' here was Frt. Beneš, but it might have been Antonin Beneš. I am also guessing that the 'Černovský' here was A. Černovský, but it might have been J. Černovský. Many games were forfeited, but the crosstable in České Listy Šachové (Apr. 1896, p.30) has a number of inconsistencies in the indications of forfeited games. If either of the places in the crosstable for the game between two players indicates a forfeit (even if the other does not), I assume it was forfeited. Musil forfeited to Göbl, Kotrč and Klír; Samohrd forfeited to Kvíčala, Last, and Musil; Veselý forfeited to Fiala, Göbl, Kotrč, Kvíčala, Popov, and Samohrd; Beneš forfeited to Dyrhon, Fiala, Göbl, Kvíčala, Popov, Samohrd, and Basika; Nachtikal forfeited to Dyrhon. Also, the games Fiala-Veselý, Samohrd-Veselý and Beneš-Veselý are shown with a 0 for both players and an asterisk to indicate a forfeit. Although all played all without odds, the first 11 players were considered one class and the final 9 of another class, and so prizes were awarded separately for the top scorers in each of these categories, 4 prizes for the top group, and 3 prizes for the remainder. For rating purposes, we can just take it as a single 20-player all-play-all tournament.
