Event table notes

Event data
Name: London Major Tournament
Place: London, England
Start date: 30 May 1899
End date: 10 July 1899

Notes:
All but 4 of Teichmann's first round games were forfeited, according to Sergeant, Feenstra Kuiper, Hannak, Gaige, Di Felice, Pope, Harding and La Grande Storia degli Scacchi. Sergeant, Gaige and Hannak indicate that Teichman's second round games, all forfeited, were not counted in the official score and Harding says that 'Teichmann's second cycle games were annulled'; Feenstra Kuiper, Di Felice and La Grande Storia degli Scacchi count these second round games. But these are not counted here anyway as they were not played over the board. The biography of Chigorin by Jimmy Adams indicates that Chigorin won one game by default, but this is not supported by the other sources. Gaige gives end date 10 July 1899 and Pope gives this as the date of Pillsbury's last game; Feenstra Kuiper and Di Felice give end date 11 July 1899.
