Event data
Name: New York Club Championship
Place: New York
Start date: 1887
End date: July 1887

Notes:
The Columbia Chess Chronicle of 16 Jul. 1887 (p.19) gives an almost-complete crosstable, with the two games between Hanham and Delmar remaining to be played as well as one between Hanham and Loyd, one between Delmar and Loyd, and one between Angresius and Kaltenbach. The Columbia Chess Chronicle of 10 Sep. 1887 (p.89) says that Hanham withdrew, leaving Delmar with the championship. I will assume that of the unplayed games, Delmar at least won his second game against Loyd, or else his score of 7.5 would have been less than Showalter's (and Hanham's) score of 8. Even if Delmar drew Loyd, he would then be equal with Showalter, and the outcome would not be clear.
