Notes: |
Only partial results available. Zavatarelli and Renette give some of the results for 24 players (though there may have been more?). Most of these cannot be used because the odds classes of many players are not given. Also, in many cases, we know only who won the encounter (and sometimes we have a single game), but we are not given the actual score. In such cases I use a soft result of 1-0, even though it seems that 2 games were played in each encounter. The Illustrated London News of 14 Jul. 1877 (p.47) says that the tournament 'ended last week' and that the three prize winners were Potter, Stevens, and Block, in that order. These three formed a final pool. If 24 players started, then after 3 rounds, there would be 3 players left for a final pool. |
