Notes: |
Partial results available. 16-player knockout tournament. Explicit results are not given, but we deduce the result of the final knowing that it was a Perrin-Thompson match and that Perrin won the tournament with an overall score of 8-0. Since there are 4 rounds in a 16-player knockout, each round must have been for 2 wins, and Perrin must have scored 2-0 in each. The New York Clipper of 26 Nov. 1859, where the tournament is announced, says that at least the first round was for the first to win 2 games. The New York Clipper of 24 Dec. 1859 says that in the third round Thompson played Marache, and since Thompson appeared in the final, he must have won. Without knowing the exact score, however, I record it as 1-0 to be conservative. |
