Event data |
Name: West Yorkshire Chess Association Tournament |
Place: Leeds |
Start date: 1 June 1861 |
End date: 1 June 1861 |
|
Notes: |
Exact scores not given by Di Felice or Whyld citing the Manchester Weekly Express and Guardian, but Staunton, in the Illustrated London News, indicates that 'a number of matches and single-game tourneys were contested' all in the one day, and the announcement in the Chess Player's Chronicle of June 1861 (p.170) says 'there will be one or more one-game Tourneys'. The report from the Leeds Mercury cited by Whyld notes that 'Mr. Parratt being obliged to leave, could not play the concluding game with Mr. Stanley...', and the same statement (with 'Parrat' instead of 'Parratt') appears in the Chess Player's Chronicle of July 1861 (p.210). I have therefore assumed 1-0 scores for each pairing, though there may have been draws, which would not have been counted. |
