Notes: |
Feenstra Kuiper gives +3-0=1 at Pawn and two moves. Coles in World Chess Champions gives +7-2=2, according to Kingston and Spinrad and Mark Weeks give the same score. Spinrad also gives +3-1=1 from the Oxford Encyclopaedia of Chess Games but the result is there called uncertain. Staunton, in the Chess Player's Chronicle (v.5, 1844, p.136) gives the result as +3-1=1 at Pawn and two move odds and gives all 5 games. Without knowing where Coles got the additional game results, I will have to go with Staunton's report. Three of the games appeared in the Apr. 1844 Chess Player's Chronicle and the result of the match and other two games appeared in the May 1844 issue, so the match probably took place within the first 4 months of 1844. Staunton and Feenstra Kuiper give the location as Brighton. |
