According to Hooper and Whyld, 'Petroff won matches against Jaenisch in the 1840s'. Di Felice gives a +1-1 result for a match between them in 1844, with no indication of any odds given, but this does not reflect Petrov's won matches, nor the fact that Petrov was giving von Jaenisch odds of Pawn and Move or Pawn and Two Moves regularly at the time. Also, Di Felice on occasion seems to have used the results of published games (which suffer from selection bias) rather than actual results of matches. Thus, I don't include Di Felice's results but I include here a +1-0 soft result at Pawn and Move odds to represent what we know but in a minimal way, and place it in 1844. Jaenisch says in the 27 Mar. 1852 Illustrated London News (p.258) that he lost 'the greater part' of his games with Petrov 'during my last sojourn in Warsaw'. |
