Notes: |
Petrov says in a letter in the Dec. 1863 issue of Shakhmatniy Listok that he played Hoffman many games over the course of the years they both lived in Warsaw, always playing even, and that Hoffman won 1 game in 5. Petrov moved to Warsaw about 1840 and Hoffman died in 1855, which still leaves a long period over which they played. There is a well-known game between them from 1844, so I am taking a soft result of 4-1 for Petrov in that year as a representative score. |
