In the Era of 7 Jul. 1861 (p.14), Löwenthal says that this match was 'on the same terms' as the previous match between the same players, which means that Löwenthal gave Pieconka odds of a Knight, and five games were to be played, exclusive of draws. He also gives the result up to that point of +1-1=1. In the 21 Jul. 1861 issue of the Era (p.6), he says that he won the match 'by scoring the odd game'. This means that he only beat Pieconka by one game, and so +3-2 in won games, with some number of draws. We know that one draw occurred, at least, so I will guess at a result of +3-2=1, though there may have been additional draws. |
