| This result is given in the Albion of 23 Feb. 1867 in answer to a correspondent, without dates or location. However, it seems that the only opportunity Mackenzie and Bird would have had to play was during Bird's brief visit to New York in Dec. 1865. One offhand game, a win by Bird, is given by Renette, dated 22 Dec. 1865. It is remotely possible that this comment refers to games played in England before Mackenzie moved to America several years earlier, but this seems unlikely. |
