| The Brooklyn Daily Eagle of 16 Dec. 1875 gives Bird's opponent as 'Perdue'. Van Winsen (p.106) and Renette (p.180) say that Bird's opponent was Frederick Perrin. Renette cites the Westminster Papers of Mar. 1876 (p.224), which indeed gives Perrin as Bird's opponent on 11 Dec. 1875. (He also cites Turf, Field and Farm, 24 Dec. 1875, but I have not checked this source). |
