Notes:
Sunnucks, Golombek and Mark Weeks give score as +8-3=2 for Staunton and the year as 1840; Feenstra Kuiper and Di Felice give +10-5=6 in 1840, and La Grande Storia degli Scacchi gives +13-8, which agrees, also in 1840. Spinrad gives both of these scores as well as +10-9=6 and +2-2, and gives the year as 1840. The Chess Player's Chronicle (1859, p.194) says that Staunton won a match (for the first to win 11 games) against Popert but only by one game and in 1841. Spinrad and Sarah give this information too but give the year as 1840. The Chess Player's Chronicle of Aug. 1874 (p.117) gives the year as 1840. The British Miscellany (13 Feb. 1841, p.161) gives the most accurate information, saying that the match 'concluded last week'. I have chosen the score +10-9=6, as given by Spinrad (citing the Teplitz-Schönau tournament book) since it agrees with the description in the Chess Player's Chronicle. It seems plausible that other scores omit some games that might not have been recorded.
