| Notes: |
| Forster gives score as +4-2=2 for Owen. The Illustrated London News of 5 Sept. 1874 and the Chess Player's Chronicle of Oct. 1874 give +4-2=0 for Owen. The Illustrated London News indicates that the match was started before the Counties Chess Association tournament in Birmingham (which started 3 Aug. 1874), and continued afterwards in Leamington (whether the part prior to the Birmingham tournament was played in Leamington is not clear), the last games being played 25-26 Aug. 1874. The Aug. 1874 issue of the Chess Player's Chronicle (p.115) gives a match game between Owen and Skipworth dated 20 July 1874, but it could have been from this match or the preceeding one. |
