Notes: |
This does not seem to have been considered a formal match, though there was a stake on each game. Hilbert says Mackenzie won +3-2; Reichhelm says Martinez won 3-2. The Dubuque Chess Journal of May 1875, the Maryland Chess Review of Mar. 1875, and Congdon's account published in the British Chess Magazine of Jun. 1897 (all discussed by van Winsen), all say that Martinez won +3-2=1. |
