Notes: |
The Westminster Papers of 1 Dec. 1873 (p.153) say he died on 24 Nov. 1873. Gaige has date of death as 7 Jan. 1874, as given in the Huddersfield College Magazine of Jan. 1874 (p.111), the Scotsman of 8 Jan. 1874 (p.4), the Edinburgh Evening News of 8 Jan. 1874, and the find-a-grave site. The Huddersfield College Magazine of Jan. 1874 (p.111) has date of birth as 1805, and the Edinburgh Evening News of 8 Jan. 1874 has 8-11-1805, and Alan McGowan tells me that a report in the Dundee Courier of 13 Jan. 1874 says that this date was inscribed on the coffin. Gaige has date of death as 5-11-1803. Alan McGowan has sent me a birth record from Nov. 1803, showing his birth date as 8 Nov. 1803, also the date at the find-a-grave site. |
