| Aside from a single offhand game with Anderssen, the only result I have for Slous is a series of games played against Harrwitz in 1847, but he had then been inactive for years, and this result probably does not reflect his strength in the 1830s. Staunton says (Chess Player's Chronicle, 1848, v.9, p.327) that Slous started poorly in this series of games against Harrwitz but gradually regained his playing strength and won more games towards the end of the series. According to Le Palamède (1844, new series v.4, p.235), Slous had then (in 1844) been in retirement for four years, for reasons of health. Murray (British Chess Magazine, May 1906, p.192) gives his year of birth as 1801; Gaige gives year of birth as 1802. The Era of 20 Jul. 1862 (p.5) has 'F.J. Slous', corrected in the 27 Jul. 1862 issue (p.5). The British Chess Magazine of Sept. 1892 (p.395) has 'Frederick Loke Slous'. |
