Event table notes

Event data
Name: Bristol Grand Tournament
Place: Bristol
Start date: 7 Sep. 1864
End date: 9 Sep. 1864

Notes:
8-player knockout tournament. Single-game rounds, exclusive of draws. No draws are mentioned, though they may simply not have been reported. In round 1, Rev. A.C. Rowley lost by default to Holloway. Di Felice gives R.C. Pierpoint, and the Chess Player's Magazine of Oct. 1864 (p.290) has 'Rev. R. Pierpoint'. Burt says 'the Rev. Mr. Pierpoint'. I take it to be the Rev. Richard William Pierpoint, brother of Rev. Edward Pelham Pierpoint, who was later better known as a chess player.
