Biographical data
Name: Fedden, Nelson
Born: 21 Oct. 1835
Died: 7 May 1915

Notes:
Gaige says only that he died at age 79 in 1915. Tom Teague (a great, great grandson of Fedden's), in a personal communication, provided exact birth and death dates. Richards gives 2 games of 'R. Fedden' at the Bristol and Clifton Handicap Tournament in 1885. I suppose this to be an error for 'N. Fedden' (although Nelson Fedden had a son named 'Robert', there seems to be no indication that he played chess). Sometimes his name is given as 'Feddon', presumably in error (e.g. the Chess Players' Quarterly Chronicle, Oct. 1871, p.344). The Era of 24 Mar. 1861 (p.6) has 'Tedder'. The Chess Players' Quarterly Chronicle of Feb. 1869 (vol.1, p.155) has 'N. Fenden'.
