Event table notes

Event data
Name: Berlin Tournament
Place: Berlin
Start date: 14 Nov. 1905
End date: 27 Feb. 1906

Notes:
Gregory lost to Cohn, Caro, Wagner, Haertel, Kunze and Wendt by default (these results not counted here for rating purposes). Gregory's games against Schewe and Wegemund are indicated by both Gaige and Di Felice as not scored for either player (which presumably indicates 'not played'). The Deutsche Schachzeitung of 1906 (p.90) shows both of these games as additional forfeits by Gregory. In either case, they are not counted here for rating purposes. The game Gregory-Bauer is indicated as a forfeit by Gregory by both Gaige and Di Felice, but the Deutsche Schachzeitung shows it as won by Bauer. The game Gregory-Lampert is given in Gaige's crosstable as '0?' for Gregory but '-?' for Lampert; Di Felice shows it as unplayed and unscored like the games against Schewe and Wegemund. The Deutsche Schachzeitung, however, shows it as won by Lampert. Gaige has 'A. Wagner' here; Di Felice has 'Wagner, Alexander'. Alan McGowan (personal communicatuion) suggests that Alfred Wagner, the Berlin player, is much more likely.
