| This was a 9-player double round all-play-all (although a 10th player, Riccardo-Rocamora, had withdrawn early and had his game scores cancelled - he had a score of +4-0=1 when he withdrew, according to the Brooklyn Daily Eagle of 27 Nov. 1898). A.K. Ettlinger played 10 out of his 16 games scoring 0/10 and then forfeited the rest. Adaucto Wanderley de Nóbrega, on the Frank Marshall Career web page, has a crosstable indicating Ettlinger's losses: two against Baird, two against Marshall, and 1 each against the other 6. However, the second Marshall-Ettlinger game is shown there as a win by forfeit for Marshall, whereas the Brooklyn Daily Eagle of 27 Nov. 1898 says that 'Marshall defeated A. Ettlinger in their second game'. I am guessing that the Marshall Career web page is right in other respects regarding Ettlinger's games. The result of the final game between Koehler and Schmidt is not recorded, according to Hilbert. It must have been a win or draw for Schmidt, otherwise Koehler would have tied Hodges for 1st place. The Marshall Career web page records it as a draw, without giving a source, but I will use this. The Marshall Career web page also shows wins by Rocamora against Hodges and Ettlinger, and a draw against Baird. The other two wins are not indicated. I include the 3 known results for Rocamora, in any case. |
