Gaige gives last place player as 'Anonymous', and the Schachzeitung of Sep. 1871 (p.260) says that this player was from London and wanted to remain anonymous, but withdrew soon as a result of illness, though how many games were actually played is not stated; La Grande Storia degli Scacchi omits the 5th player altogether; Di Felice identifies him as John de Soyres. Di Felice gives date Aug. 15, 1871. La Grande Storia degli Scacchi gives dates Aug. 18-20, 1871. The Schachzeitung (p.260) says that play started on the Saturday morning (19 Aug. 1871).
