Event table notes

Event data
Name: 16th New York State Championship
Place: New York
Start date: 22 Feb. 1894
End date: 24 Feb. 1894

Notes:
A 4 round knock-out tournament with a single game per pairing for first prize, but with losers continuing to compete for lesser prizes. When a game was drawn, the player of the black pieces decided which player was to be considered the 'winner'. I do not have the result of the 3rd round game between D.G. Baird and J.M. Hanham. A.C. Clapp retired after the first round and his place was taken be W.M. de Visser. Clapp lost to Delmar in the first round, but this was a loss by forfeit, so it is not counted here.
